This falls Community Garden meeting, despite the chilly weather, was very pleasant. There was tea, coffee and all kinds of sweet goodies on the picnic bench beneath the trees near the newly created butterfly garden. Susan Berman started off thanking every one for the wonderful job we’ve done in maintaining the gardens, and said it has been a real success in the community. Many people have commented, some saying that it is one of the nicest gardens they’ve seen! Chris Martin played a good part in helping us get the garden started this year and thanks to Solomon Boye and his work crew we have a lovely new garden sign. As well, we received a letter from The Stop food bank thanking us all our donations ( the letter is scanned into the web site).

There have been some changes made: the new butterfly garden, the alkaline garden under way, and some Patio bricks will be laid down on the path near the shed to allow the parks trucks to back-up and turn when delivering compost etc.

This unfortunately shrinks Evettas garden plot. We wish the garden lots to be fairly divided. At present they are not equal in size.

While the standard plot is 10' x 20' the gardens an the north side are larger. Plots #17 + 18 are roughly 11' x 30', #19, the charity plot, is 13' x 25', and plots #20 & 21 are about 15' x 20'.

Through the discussion with those present, we decided to install 2' paths between #18 and #19, taking a little space from each, and a 2' path between #20 and #21, again taking a little space from each. The gardeners will be notified when we get around to putting in the steaks and marking off the area.

We would like to restore plots #13-16 to their original size of 10' x 10' and put another garden behind it to accommodate the seniors in the co-op at 120 Perth. Next to that space is the chain link fence where some weedy trees are growing, we need to dig a few inches under the fence to keep it under control. We also are considering putting a compost bin behind the shed depending on finances and help offered as well as consideration of the practical end.

Other notes: charity plot keep for next year vote: yes

Does any one want to take a turn at being the coordinator?: So far, no. Would any one like to help in the core group? I joined.

Patel family to move into plot 20.

Mail your digital pictures to perth-dupontcg@frogstar.com, so we can make a Photo gallery We have a web site thanks to Susan son-Tim

perth-dupontcg.tripod.com now changed to www.perth-dupont.Parkcommons.ca

Tennis court gate/fence will be fixed

And we could always use a helping hand; Susan has organized for a group of students to help with digging trenches around the other edges of gardens where the grass and weeds a shorting the plots. Any volunteers would be wonderful and it should be fun and some food will be provided. It will be of Oct. 14th, and 21st, From 10 am to 3 pm . Chris Martin will be bringing us extra tools to borrow for this event. Some food will be provided. Myself, I have volunteered to be the co-ordinators assistant and Michelle has offered help in taking pictures and writing a news letter. Every one would like to give a big round of applause to Susan for all her hard work in organizing our garden.Thank you!
