As a way of introduction I would like to circle around for every ones name. I am Susan Berman I am the coordinator of this garden. - - - Thank you.
First I would like to review what happened at the April community garden meeting. Quite a few of you came to this first meeting of the season. We talked about the need for clear guidelines in the garden to protect the rights of the gardeners and the obligation of participation. Those of you that haven’t signed the ‘Community Garden Guidelines’ yet are urged to do so at the end of the meeting. We also discussed the need for committees to handle things like the direction of the community garden: called the Steering Committee.-That’s the core group
The Finance and fundraising Committee. –Michelle Vanlooey
The Membership Committee.- Gregory Kim
The Social Committee – Alison Uquhart
NOTES FROM THE MEETING
These committees of ‘one’ could use some help so feel free to talk to these people and find out how you can help them.
-We now have 29 gardeners and have created 2 new garden areas in the back row behind plots #13-#16.
- Shirley Darling has negotiated some plant donations, and we have been able to share these plants with some other community gardens.
- Amar Bisson has let us borrow a real wheel barrow for the garden.
-A lot of you have taken the time to help out other gardeners with weeding techniques, sharing plants and ideas. Many of you have helped me work on the Sharing Garden plot, and get the compost underway. That is what truly makes the Community garden work. I have also enjoyed seeing several gardeners coming to the garden at the same time and taking the time to talk with each other.
-Plans- We would like to have an other fundraising sale. We have been replanting some of the donated plants to make new potted plant sets for selling.
-We are supporting the Rankin Community Garden to get them off to a good start!
We then welcomed the Rankin Community Garden.
Next we introduced Ravenna Barker the coordinator of that garden.
She has written this book ‘Compost Breakdown’, and she spoke for a few minutes on -Why Compost?
This meeting was well attended. As well, several members of the Rankin community Garden, and the Erwin Krickhahn Garden came. After the progress report, Ravenna started her discussion about composting. She engaged the group by asking questions about the reason for composting and why do it. This helped every one see the need to support our composting project.
No serious issues were brought up. We talked a little bit about fundraising and a plan for the fall clean up event.
