At the end of the season in 2007, we received a donation of a tent, and a barbeque! It was very exciting to think of the possibilities in presenting nice events with these new items. Reality, of course sets in, at the end of the day, when you realize that you can't get into the shed any more! The garden shed was pretty full to start with, but this just pushed the limit.

Over the winter, I pondered the question of -what can we do about more storage. By February I decided to hold a community garden meeting, and ask the gardeners. It was a small group that came to the bakery, but it was the first discussion of what sort of storage unit we should have, and where to put it. And, how can we aford it? We talked about it, and came to the conclusion that we could put an extra garden shed in the south east corner of the garden. But we still didn't have any money.

On March 26th I met with the Contractor, and the City Supervisor for the Tennis court Repairs. Parks and Rec were also at the meeting. After the meeting I was able to explain to the woman from Parks and Rec, about our need for a storage shed, and our plan for putting it in the south east corner of the garden. She told me that there was a cement bunker nearby that she had to move any way, and would try to get it for us. So, to make a long story short, she was able to get it!

The next trick was all in the timing. The tennis court was half finished, the granular base had been finished (but not approved), and the fence was still down. The site was currently inactive, so the sooner we could get the bunker in there the better. The weather was good, and on Tuesday April 15th. we received the bunker.

The preparations for receiving the bunker was still a lot of work, but several gardeners volunteered to help. We had to remove the "weed pile" from the corner, and carefully take out the Alkaline Garden so it could be relocated to another area of the garden. Next we had to dig a 9'x6' base for the bunker so that they could put crushed lime stone down for a foundation.

Tuesday April 15. The cement Bunker is deliver between the fence poles of the Tennis Court.

They delivered the bunker with big crane truck. It took -Driving skills!- to get it between the poles of the tennis court. And then about a half an hour to position it through the poles from the court side onto the garden side.

We are really happy to have an extra storage area. We received one more donation, a wheel barrow, a very important piece of garden equipment. We are ready for the new growing season!
