Big On Bloor Event!
On Saturday June 21, The BIG Festival came to Bloor Street. From Christie to Lansdowne, along historic Bloor Street, the street was closed so that local businesses, community groups, and the arts and culture scene could celebrate a unique street fair that featured hundreds of events, activities and exhibitions.
The theme of the inaugural BIG Festival is what we as individuals, as members of community and as citizens bring to the table. The theme was inspired by a small story about one of the many Bloor Street communities who started a Sunday night potluck picnic in a park deemed to dangerous to visit during the day.
The theme of what we bring to the table was expressed in one BIG activity that required the participation of the entire Bloor Street community and Toronto at large:
throwing the biggest dinner party in Toronto and in the world!
The Perth Dupont Community Garden wanted to participate. We started to prepare for this event weeks earlier. We decided to make planter containers for selling-for fund raising. They were filled with tomato plants that Alison made, and basil seedlings that were donated, and as well some of the things that grew in the garden. We also added seeds so that the planters were full of good organic flowers and veggies.

We also brought the posters that we made last year for our community events and the new poster that I just made featuring what we plan on doing for our Garden Upgrade project.
Many friends of the community garden were also at this event. We sat next to Joshna, the chef from The Stop. She did a cooking demonstration for the crowd.
Alison, one of our gardeners, had a display of some of her pottery. Really pretty things. You can also see some of her work in the section called "What gardeners do on a rainy day" In the folder called 'Gardener Stories'
