Carrot Cache update report:

Adam Smith from Growing Spaces - now Spades & Spoons - talked with me about the design of the garden shed and our desire to have solar power.

He said that from a practical stand point, the roof of the shed should have the larger slope toward the south.

Because of the layout of the garden, the only way we could do that would be to move the shed north about four or five feet.

To move the shed at all, we would have to get lifting equipment in. So, I spoke with my park supervisor Chris Martin. He said that in the end of May, he would be able to get the equipment in and move it, and anything else that we have that might need moving.

I was also able to make contact with the Ontario Solar Academy, they will be coming to assess our power needs and figure out what would be best for our community garden and our location. We hope to lead the way for other community gardens to get off-grid power as well. In fact, because of my request, they are offering to donate their time to make assessments for other community gardens.

  • I will be meeting with Adam Smith, David Hampson, and a member of the technical staff from Parks, Forestry and Recreation, on April 1st. We will talk about the practical manner to design and build this project.

March 27 and 28: We have had our garden cleaning event, and we were able to move our "clutter" from the north side of the Garden shed. There was a good turnout and the garden is ready for the nice weather and spring planing!
