Carrot Cache update report: Meeting with The Designer, Solar Person and Parks and Rec.
April 1st We had a meeting at the garden site. In attendance were:
Adam Smith from Growing Spaces - (Spades & Spoons)
David Hampson from the Ontario Solar Academy
Chris Martin from Parks Forestry and Recreation
and
myself - Susan the garden coordinator,
as well as Andrea one of our knowledgeable gardeners.
We discussed how the Shed would be moved and how far to move it, as well we talked about the shape of the built-on roof, so that it would be easy to construct. We then talked about the solar panels how they would function, how many would be a good starting point, and the safety of them. It would not be likely to be stolen because of the way that they are fastened on, and the size and weight of them.
We also talked about the time line and the sequence of events. While we wait for the parks and rec. summer staff to arrive, the community garden members will be digging the foundation for the new location of the shed. Once the Parks staff arrive, one of them will be trained in using the heavy lifting equipment. At that point, we will empty the shed and bring in the lifting equipment and begin the move. There is a possibility that the shed might not move well with-out damaging it, so we have a back-up plan and design if that happens. After it is moved, we will be able to confirm the design the measurements etc. for our porch and the roof to hold the solar panels. As soon as Parks and Rec. approve the design we will be able to start building our project.

A few days later, I was able to meet with Katie Fullerton from Live Green Toronto
I told her about the project we are about to embark on and she gave me some leads on places I can get a grant from to cover the cost of the solar panels for our garden. So, that is the project that I will be working on while we wait for the sequence of events to unfold.
