The gardens are planted now, it is just a matter of keeping the weeds down, and watering.

It has been a pretty busy month ... the many different classed for the the Perth Public School coming as often as they can to plant their seedling.

June was a great month, the gardeners finished planting their gardens, the Perth Ave. PS planted their garden and all the children had a chance to work on it -Some weeded, some made the pathways and some helped with the planting and watering.

Bike Pirates

The Bike Pirates dropped by for a tour, as is the custom for Geoffry - the leader of the Bike Pirates. He likes to take groups of the clients, volunteers and staff of the B.P. to take tours of the area, so that the newer folks can get a sense of the area and to find different routs to travel on to avoid the risks of taking the main roads like Bloor, and Dufferin.

We also had a visitor from Portland Maine, USA. He was doing research on community gardens. He found our garden through the Toronto Community Garden network (TCGN) website.

We received more seedlings from the TCGN Seedling give-away, and some of the extra seedling plants from the Christie Pits Community Garden.

The grade five students from the Upper Canada Collage donated a large cold frame and a planter. It is greatly appreciated.

We also received 10 yards of triple Mix soil from a place called Zephyr-Peat. 10 yards is a lot of "dirt!". It took the gardeners several days to move it from the Cement Pad in the park, to the garden area. We filled up our "Straw-Bale Corral". We had so much that we also had to create a new area to store the rest that didn't fit in the corral. we placed it onto our old tarps, if front of the Herb Garden. That came in handy, because we had to revive the Herb Garden. In the background of this picture you can see the cold frame that was donated to our garden.

We had some volunteers from the U of T - Volunteer Club Great young people, hard working, and we got a lot accomplished in fixing the Herb Garden. We had to take out the plants that we wanted to save, remove the invasive morning glories and the weeds.

Next we got the new landscape fabric and re-did the border up against the tennis court fence. We then, double-dug the triple mix soil in with the original dirt, as well as adding the Spanish River Carbonatite. This enhanced the soil as well as raising the soil level. Then we put the plants back. It is a very big garden, and we had to work on it in sections, but over the next few weeks, I was able to work with a variety of gardeners and volunteers to get this task done. Two of the U of T - Volunteer Club members.

And ... at long last - we got the Garden shed moved to the new location. and they were able to move it the whole distance (four feet north and two feet east).

We look forward to having the porch added onto the shed.
