Carrot Cache update report: Project Update - Sept 2012

It was in 2009 that our community garden group agreed that having an addition to the existing garden shed would be a good idea.

Accessibility upgrades for our Garden Shed

We set about applying for a grant, and looking for someone to help us with the design. We were successful with both parts. The Carrot Cache granted us some money for the main part of the structure, and Adam Smith from Growing Spaces created a design that would accommodate our needs and he did the research needed to make sure that we had the most effective use of the solar panels.

In 2010, we did as much as we could to prepare for this project. The set backs that we faced in 2010 and 2011 were getting the design approved by the city, and the fact that we had four different park supervisors.

Now finally in 2012, we have involved the new city councillor, and our new park supervisor. They are very interested in our project and are helping us move it forward. I was able to meet with the assistant for the city councillor, the supervisor for Parks Forestry and Recreation (P.F.&R.), and the new P.F.&R. park supervisor for our park. I showed them around the park and the garden, so that they could see the improvements that we have made.

We also have two new funders': Live Green to help us with our pollinator garden. Many of the plants that we have there now will need to be moved for the construction of the building add-on. They will also help us with the general park stewardship – new plants for the garden with fruit trees and “home made” benches, and native plants. . And From Parks Forestry and Recreation there is the Partnership Program, that will help with finalizing the design and the labour.
